Sixth-placed Aston Villa will look to break back into the top five of the Premier League when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park on Friday.
With fifth-placed Chelsea playing Manchester United at the same time, Villa will hope the Blues falter. However, even if they don’t, they would still leapfrog fourth-placed Manchester City with a win here.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are having an abysmal league campaign and have nothing to play for. They may also have one eye on their Europa League Final against Manchester United next week.
ASTON VILLA VS TOTTENHAM PREVIEW
The two sides have already met at Villa Park this season in the FA Cup back in February. Villa ran out 2-1 winners, with Jacob Ramsey scoring the opening goal inside the first minute. Morgan Rogers put the game out of reach, with Mathys Tel scoring a last-minute consolation.
Spurs secured a rare victory in the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, scoring four goals to blow Villa away 4-1. Brennan Johnson and James Maddison strikes sandwiched a Dominic Solanke brace as Spurs came from behind to win.
Tottenham also scored four in this fixture last season. Maddison and Johnson were on the score sheet again, with goals supplemented by Son Heung-min and Timo Werner.
Villa go into this game off the back of a 1-0 win over Bournemouth, while Spurs slumped 2-0 against Crystal Palace.
Jacob Ramsey will be suspended for Aston Villa after his red card at Bournemouth. Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, is still out with a hamstring injury.
Youri Tielemans is out, but Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana are available.
James Maddison is out for the rest of the season so won’t feature for Spurs. Dejan Kulusevski is also absent, having undergone surgery. Lucas Bergvall has an ankle problem.
ASTON VILLA VS TOTTENHAM – PREDICTIONS
Aston Villa Win
League position, current form and home advantage all suggest Aston Villa will claim the win. They have won their last seven games at Villa Park and are likely to make it eight.
Draw
You have to go back 23 matches to find the last draw between the two sides, which took place in 2012.
Tottenham Win
A 4-0 win at the Etihad against Manchester City back in November suggests Tottenham can beat anyone on their day, despite their poor league campaign.

Aston Villa Win
It’s hard to look past an Aston Villa win. They are the team in form and have a greater need for points. They have won seven of their last eight Premier League matches and their last seven at Villa Park. Meanwhile, Tottenham will almost certainly have one eye on the Europa League Final next week. They haven’t won in five away games in the Premier League either.
Ollie Watkins to Score
I’m expecting a comprehensive Villa win, so it’s a perfect chance for Villa’s top scorer to get on the score sheet. Watkins scored his 16th Premier League goal of the season against Bournemouth last time out. In doing so, he became Villa’s highest-ever Premier League scorer, his strike last week being his 75th goal in the top flight.
He has scored nine Premier League goals at Villa Park this campaign. He is looking to score 10 goals at home in a single Premier League season for the first time. Tottenham’s defence is particularly leaky. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 11 Premier League games and have conceded 59 top-flight goals this season. The conditions are therefore perfect for Watkins to get to double figures.
