Chelsea will look to continue their assault on the top-five places in the Premier League when they host Everton in Saturday’s early kick-off.
The Blues are in a pack of five teams looking to secure the final three European spots. They go into this fixture in reasonable form, having won two and drawn two of their last four games. However, they are in sixth place in the league, two points behind fifth-placed Newcastle United, so know they can’t slip up.
Everton, meanwhile, have little to play for. They have only won one of their last six, but are 17 points clear of the drop zone with no threat of relegation. With the top 10 10 points off, they are largely playing for pride.
CHELSEA VS EVERTON PREVIEW
Chelsea come into this game off the back of a come-from-behind 2-1 win against Fulham last time out. Late goals from Tyrique George and Pedro Neto were enough to overturn the Cottagers’ lead.
There were also late goals in Everton’s last match, but they were on the receiving end. Nico O’Reilly and Mateo Kovacic struck in the final 10 minutes to give Manchester City a 2-0 win at Goodison Park.
The last nine games between Chelsea and Everton have all followed the same pattern – Everton win, Chelsea win, draw. If this holds, then Everton should be victorious here.
However, in the corresponding fixture last season, they were hammered 6-0. Four goals from Cole Palmer did most of the damage, while Nicolas Jackson and Alfie Gilchrist got on the score sheet too.
The Toffees can take heart from the reverse fixture this season, which ended in a goalless draw at Goodison Park.
Wesley Fofana, Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman are all out for Chelsea through injury. Romeo Lavia also has a slight knock, but aside from this, the Londoners are at full strength.
Centre-back James Tarkowski could be the big absentee for Everton. Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jesper Lindstrom are both struggling with strains so could miss out. Aside from that, they have a fully fit and available squad.
CHELSEA VS EVERTON – PREDICTIONS
Chelsea Win
With home advantage and a greater need for the points, all signs point to a Chelsea win. They have been unbeaten at Stamford Bridge against Everton for over 30 years. They also put six past Everton with no reply in the last meeting between the two sides in west London.
Draw
Everton have drawn more Premier League games than any side in the division (14) while Chelsea are always suspectable to being sloppy. They have dropped points to mid-table Brentford and struggling Ipswich this month alone. One of Everton’s draws this season was against Chelsea – a goalless encounter at Goodison Park back in December.
Everton Win
The Toffees have not won at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League since 1994. However, their form since David Moyes returned to the dugout has markedly improved. They will be determined to finish the season on a high so could surprise.
CHELSEA VS EVERTON – BETTING TIPS
Draw
Despite Chelsea having home advantage and the greater need for points, they do have a habit of being held by bottom-half teams. Draws against Brentford and Ipswich earlier this month highlight this. Meanwhile, despite Everton’s defeat to Man City, they held firm for 84 minutes and are a tough nut to crack. Having secured 14 draws this season and only being defeated twice in 13 matches, Chelsea may struggle against them.
Under 2.5 Goals
Four of Everton’s last seven matches have ended 1-1 while the other three all had fewer than 2.5 goals too. You have to go back to a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in February to find the last high-scoring Everton game.
Chelsea have found their scoring boots a little more recently, but it’s been against the likes of Legia Warszawa and Ipswich. They were held to a goalless draw at Brentford and scraped past Fulham 2-1. Everton are arguably a step up in class.

- Chelsea and Everton have played each other 193 times, with the Toffees winning 60. The Londoners have won 76 games while there have been 57 draws.
- The recent form between the two sides has been even. Over the last nine games, Everton have won three, Chelsea have won three, while there have been three draws.
- Interestingly, the sequence has been Everton win, Chelsea win, then draw. If this holds, this game should be a victory for Everton.
- However, Chelsea have not lost any of their last 29 home encounters against Everton (W16 D13) in a run stretching back to November 1994.
- Everton manager David Moyes’ record at Stamford Bridge is equally poor. He hasn’t won any of the 19 matches over which he has presided against the west London club (D7 L12).
- Chelsea are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games (W2 D2).
- Everton have lost two of their last four Premier League games (W1 D1).
