Fulham were unable to halt Arsenal’s title tilt on Tuesday and their attentions now turn to league leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
The Gunners closed the gap between themselves and the Reds to nine points with a 2-1 win. However, Liverpool responded by beating Everton 1-0 on Wednesday.
A Diogo Jota goal in the 57th minute was enough for Arne Slot’s men to defeat their local rivals and restore their 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
This was their fourth straight win in the English top flight. It feels it’s only a matter of time before Liverpool claim the title.
FULHAM VS LIVERPOOL PREVIEW
Fulham’s form is mixed going into this game, having won three and lost three of their last six Premier League games. They had hoped to bounce back against the Gunners after crashing out of the FA Cup last weekend. However, Bukayo Saka scored seven minutes after being introduced from the bench following a 101-day layoff. This made it 2-0 to Arsenal and a late Rodrigo Muniz goal wasn’t enough for Fulham to avoid defeat.
The Cottagers still have European aspirations though. Having been knocked out of the FA Cup, their best chance is through their league position. Their defeat on Tuesday saw them slip to ninth place, but they are still only five points off Newcastle United in fifth. They can’t afford to drop any more points though, but it’s difficult to conjure up a tougher fixture than this one.
Liverpool are runaway leaders in the Premier League and it’s only a matter of time before they are crowned champions. They faced Everton on Wednesday and didn’t slip up. A 1-0 win gave them a 12-point lead with just eight games to play.
Liverpool have a strong record against Fulham too as last season’s corresponding fixture saw the Reds win 3-1. Trent Alexander-Arnold put Liverpool ahead only for Timothy Castagne to equalise deep into first-half stoppage time. Second-half strikes from Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota put the game beyond doubt.
Earlier this season, the sides played out a 2-2 draw at Anfield. Liverpool twice had to come back from a goal down, with Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota cancelling out goals from Andreas Pereira and Rodrigo Muniz respectively.
The two sides also met in last season’s League Cup semi-finals, with Liverpool enjoying a 3-2 aggregate win over two legs. The Reds went on to lift the trophy.
FULHAM VS LIVERPOOL – PREDICTIONS
Fulham Win
Fulham have home advantage and have alternated between winning and losing over their last six games. If this run sticks, expect them to win here.
Draw
The last game between the two sides, back in December, ended in a 2-2 draw at Anfield. Fulham are having a decent season and being at home could make this a potential banana skin for Liverpool.
Liverpool Win
The Reds will be looking to win the Premier League title as soon as possible. They are unbeaten at Craven Cottage in six games in all competitions. Meanwhile, they have won nine of the last 15 games between the two sides.
FULHAM VS LIVERPOOL – BETTING TIPS
Liverpool Win
It’s hard to see beyond the Reds here, although Fulham will make it tricky. Liverpool’s march to the title seems inevitable and all of the stats point in their favour.
Both Teams To Score
Both teams have scored in all of the last five fixtures between the two sides, and six of the last seven, in all competitions. Their 2-2 draw earlier in the season suggests an expansive affair on Sunday, with Fulham taking the game to Liverpool on home turf. Both teams also scored in Fulham’s last game against Arsenal while the Reds rarely struggle to score.
Mohamed Salah to Score or Assist
Liverpool have netted eight goals in their last four away matches in the Premier League and Mo Salah has either scored them (five) or assisted them (three). He has been involved in exactly two goals in each of his last four away Premier League appearances. At 27 goals and 17 assists this campaign, Salah has been the most influential striker in the top flight this season.
