Liverpool will look to claim the Premier League title by avoiding defeat against a Tottenham side having a thoroughly miserable campaign.

Liverpool will look to claim the Premier League title on Sunday when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

They will secure their 20th top-flight crown if they avoid defeat following Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Twelve points now separate Liverpool and Arsenal at the top of the table, with the Gunners only having four games remaining. This is Liverpool’s game in hand and should they pick up a single point, the title is theirs.

Liverpool last secured the title five years ago under Jurgen Klopp, which was their first top-flight crown in 30 years. Crowds were banned due to the pandemic, so winning the league in front of their home fans is highly anticipated this time around.

LIVERPOOL VS TOTTENHAM PREVIEW

The Reds go into this game off the back of a 1-0 win against Leicester. Trent Alexander-Arnold came off the bench to score 14 minutes from time, allowing Liverpool to claim the three points and relegate The Foxes in the process.

Spurs, meanwhile, are having an abysmal season and sit in 16th place. A 2-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday summed up their season as they have only won one Premier League game in their last six.

This is the fourth time the two sides have faced each other this season. In the Premier League, Liverpool secured a 6-3 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah both scored braces, with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai scoring goals too. James Maddison, Dejan Kulusekvski and Dominic Solanke were on the scoresheet for Tottenham.

The two sides also met in the League Cup semi-finals, where Liverpool progressed 4-1 on aggregate. A Lucas Bergvall goal four minutes from time gave Spurs a 1-0 lead to take to Anfield. However, the Reds hammered them 4-0 in the second leg on Merseyside.

Liverpool have a largely full-strength squad at their disposal, their only absentees being Joe Gomez and Tyler Morton.

Tottenham are largely at full strength too, with only Radu Dragusin and Son Heung-min being out of action. Destiny Udogie was absent against Forest, but he was merely rested and could feature here.

LIVERPOOL VS TOTTENHAM – PREDICTIONS

Liverpool Win
Liverpool have the bit between their teeth and will be determined to secure the title in front of their home fans. They are on a two-game winning run since their surprise defeat at Fulham. Tottenham, meanwhile, may have one eye on their Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt next week.

Draw
The two sides did draw both fixtures in the 2021/22 season, but no team has drawn fewer games in the Premier League than Tottenham this time around (4). Liverpool have only drawn seven games too.

Tottenham Win
Spurs are doing well in the Europa League and on their day can beat anyone. They beat Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad back in November, so Liverpool would be wise to be wary.

LIVERPOOL VS TOTTENHAM – BETTING TIPS

Liverpool Win
Home advantage, form, the need for points – Liverpool have every reason going to get the win. They will want to put the league title to bed as quickly as possible while Spurs will have one eye on next Thursday’s Europa League semi-final. Reds manager Arne Slot has said his side has a “big responsibility” to claim the title in front of their home fans and I expect his side to rise to the challenge.

Both Teams to Score
Liverpool have only let in 31 league goals this campaign, but have conceded in two of their four games in April so far. Tottenham have scored in each of their last five games in all competitions. Liverpool and Tottenham have both scored in all of the last nine Premier League games between the two sides.

Mohamed Salah to Score or Assist
Mohamed Salah may have gone off the boil slightly of late, but he is still the Premier League’s top scorer with 27 goals. He has scored 15 goals in 23 matches against Tottenham in his career, including a brace in the last Premier League clash between the two sides. He hasn’t scored in his last five games, but against Leicester on Sunday, he did have seven shots. Spurs should afford him a similar number of opportunities so he could break his recent duck.

HEAD-TO-HEAD AND KEY STATS

  • Liverpool and Tottenham have played each other 186 times, with the Reds winning 92. Spurs have won 50 games while there have been 44 draws.
