Best Online MMA Betting Sites

Interest in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has skyrocketed in the last 10 years, with organisations like the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) increasing in prominence. This growth is attributed mainly to the drive of UFC CEO and President Dana White and former UFC Champion Conor McGregor, whose outlandish actions outside of the ring captured the world’s attention. The bigger spotlight brings more interest in betting on the sport too, and that’s why our experts have put together this extensive MMA betting guide. You can find everything you need to know below.

What We Look for in the Best MMA Betting Sites

MMA has never been more popular, meaning more sportsbooks are offering more MMA betting options. How do you determine which bookmaker is the best though? This is what we look for:

Range of Markets

As MMA grows, we expect the number of betting markets to grow too. Not only do we expect the major bouts to be covered, we are also looking for smaller match-ups as well. We expect outright odds and responsive live betting too.

Competitive Odds

We are looking for sportsbooks that consistently offer the most attractive odds, both pre-bout and live, giving punters the best possible value.

Generous Bonuses

MMA-specific bonuses are highly prized, particularly ones related to the big bouts. However, at a minimum, we hope to see a strong welcome bonus and ongoing promotions for existing players.

Ease of Navigation

Live betting is a core part of MMA betting, meaning you should be able to bet wherever you are. The best sportsbooks have native mobile apps for both iOS and Android devices, while we also expect a pleasurable betting experience on tablet and desktop.

A Range of Payment Options

Bettors have never been more discerning when it comes to payment methods, so we expect to see a wide range of options including cards, e-wallets, bank transfers, and even cryptocurrency.

Best Live Bookmakers in Detail

As MMA betting becomes increasingly popular, understanding where to place your bets, how to do it wisely, and the best bookmakers to use is becoming increasingly important. Here are the best of the bunch:

BEST CLASSIFICATIONS FOR MMA BETTING

Unlike boxing, where heavyweights are the main draw and get the biggest payouts, the main MMA weight classes tend to be around the middle. The most entertaining weight classes for MMA betting are:

LIGHTWEIGHT

For fighters that weigh up to a maximum of 70.3 kg (155 lbs). This weight class gained lots of attention thanks to the likes of Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov and their classic encounters at this weight in recent years. There are plenty of up-and-coming names in this division too, so keep an eye out for those.

WELTERWEIGHT

One of the heavier weights in the sport, this is for fighters up to a maximum weight of 77.1 kg (170 lbs). The welterweight division is known for producing quality all-round fighters. One of the most notable champions in this particular weight division is Georges St-Pierre.

FEATHERWEIGHT

This is one of lighter divisions – fighters cannot exceed a maximum weight of 65.8 kg (145 lbs). This is another division that Conor McGregor is known for being a part of, particularly in his early career. His high-profile bouts with Jose Aldo at this weight class really put it on the map.

MIDDLEWEIGHT

A weight division for fighters weighing up to a maximum of 83.9 kg (185 lbs), this is arguably one of the most competitive divisions in the whole of MMA. In recent years some notable names have made their mark at this weight class including Anderson Silva and Israel Adesanya. There tends to more emphasis on striking, so you see more knockouts at this weight class compared to the others.

A GUIDE TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO BET ON MMA

If you’re new to the world of MMA betting, then you’ll find this section useful. Here, we’ll outline everything you need to know about MMA betting odds, including some helpful tips and advice.

How to choose the ideal bookmaker for MMA

This one’s easy, as we’ve done the hard yards for you. All you have to do is check our expert bookmaker reviews and decide which site works best for you. Sign up for an account and away you go. Don’t forget to check our MMA betting tips too!

Managing your budget better

More of a general betting tip, but still applicable when betting on MMA. Have a set budget for yourself and stick to it. You don’t want to lose more than you can afford.

BOXING Betting: Mistakes to Avoid

To help you on your MMA betting journey, we’ve outlined some things that you should avoid:
  • Chasing losses – This is the cardinal sin of gambling. Once you’ve hit your budget, stop betting. It’s tempting after a loss, but don’t go back in to try and win it back.
  • Blindly backing favourites – We can all be guilty of this one, but there’s so much more to consider. For instance, has the fighter had the best prep? Outside factors can affect the result of fights too so stay abreast of these.
  • Betting without researching – Doing your research is a basic of betting on any sport. Check your stats before placing any punts.
  • Staking too much – Even if the odds aren’t as good as you’d like, avoid upping your bet amount to more than you normally would.

Consistency and method are the winning strategy

Consistency is key in all forms of gambling. Have a strategy, have a manageable betting budget and, most importantly, stick to them. This will ensure you have a positive MMA betting experience.

Livescore and Streaming Proposal

MMA fights don’t last very long. Typically, they are made up of either three or five rounds, with each round lasting five minutes. This means a fight tends to last either 15 or 25 minutes. There is a one-minute break between rounds. That’s not very long for traders to adapt the MMA betting odds and markets for live betting.

Live betting on MMA is still possible of course, but you may have to wait until the breaks between rounds to get your bets on. So be sure to keep a close eye on the action and be ready to place your bets before the next round starts and markets get suspended.

One of the advantages of live MMA betting is that you can wait and see how the opening rounds play out. Maybe you feel the underdog is going to get the upper hand and cause an upset, or the favourite is in great form and will likely go for the KO. Whatever your thoughts, you can back them in play with greater knowledge.

Just like in boxing, MMA has major fight cards every couple of months or so. However, those cards contain the most illustrious names in the sport and, as such, the broadcasting rights are sold at a premium as pay per views.

This means that, more often than not, bookmakers cannot get the broadcast rights to live stream the major events. However, there are weekly MMA contests that are not as high profile and so there is a much greater chance you can live stream those.

Always check directly with the bookmaker as to what their MMA live streaming offer is. Alternatively, you can read our in-depth reviews of all of the top bookies to make things easier for yourself.

TYPES OF MMA

Like boxing, MMA is segregated into weight class divisions. These determine who can fight who and what weight they have to be to do so. The full list of different MMA weight classes is as follows:

  • Strawweight – The lowest of all the weight classes, this allows fighters up to a maximum of just 52.2 kg (115 lbs).
  • Flyweight – The next step up from strawweight, but still a pretty low weight to be making with a maximum of 56.7 kg (125 lbs).
  • Bantamweight – Boxing fans will be familiar with this particular weight class, but for MMA fighters, the maximum weight is quite a bit higher at 61.2 kg (135 lbs).
  • Featherweight – Not so much like the weight of a feather in that the highest weight that fighters can get to in this bracket is 65.8 kg (145 lbs).
  • Lightweight – Another deceptive title in that the heaviest that a lightweight MMA fighter can be is 70.3 kg (155 lbs).
  • Super Lightweight – This is a step up again, with a maximum weight of 74.8 kg (165 lbs).
  • Welterweight – The highest weight that welterweights can be in order to fight in this division is 77.1 kg (170 lbs).
  • Middleweight – Hardly in the middle of the weight division, the maximum weight for middleweights is 83.9 kg (185 lbs). This would make you a light heavyweight in boxing.
  • Super Middleweight – The maximum weight here is a hefty 88.5 kg (195 lbs).
  • Light Heavyweight – The lowest of the heavyweight classes comes in at a maximum weight of 93.0 kg (205 lbs) for fighters.
  • Cruiserweight – Another well-known boxing category, but here, the maximum weight permitted is 102.1 kg (225 lbs).
  • Heavyweight – A true title at last, with the maximum weight being 120.2 kg (265 lbs) in order to fight in the heavyweight category of MMA.
  • Super Heavyweight – This is unique in that there is no maximum weight limit for fighters to participate in this division, so you no doubt see people of all shapes and sizes competing.

FAQS

How is an MMA fight decided if it goes all the way?

Similar to boxing, if a fight goes the entire distance without either being knocked out then the fight goes to the judges’ scorecards to determine the winner. If you back a fighter to win outright and they win on points, your bet is settled as a win.

If you back a fighter to win specifically by knockout, but they win another way, your bet is settled as a loss. Bets placed on the outright winner would be settled as a win.

Unless you’ve actually backed the fight to end in a draw, then your bet will be settled as a loss.

No. A disqualification automatically awards the opponent the victory. So if your fighter is DQ’d, then your bet will be settled as a loss.

As the name suggests it consists of many forms. However there are four main ‘pillars’ of combat that are used by fighters. They are; Boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling.
