The Memphis Classic prediction for 2026 favours Ekaterina Alexandrova, but the top seed’s inconsistent season prevents this from being a High-confidence selection.
Alexandrova possesses the strongest serve and most proven hard-court attacking game in the field. Her draw also appears manageable, with Caty McNally the projected quarterfinal seed and either Zeynep Sonmez or Peyton Stearns the likely semifinal opponent.
The bottom half is led by McCartney Kessler and Viktorija Golubic. Camila Osorio, Sloane Stephens and Linda Fruhvirtova are also positioned in that section.
Memphis Classic 2026 tournament overview
The Memphis Classic marks the return of WTA tennis to Memphis after almost 15 years.
The WTA 250 tournament is played on outdoor hard courts at the Leftwich Tennis Center. The draw contains 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams, with a total financial commitment of $283,347.
Unlike Washington, the Memphis draw does not give the leading seeds opening-round byes. Every player must win five matches to claim the title.
That increases the importance of efficient service games, recovery and avoiding long three-set contests during the opening rounds.
Memphis Classic draw analysis
Top quarter
Alexandrova opens against qualifier Kristina Liutova.
The top seed could then face Maya Joint or Whitney Osuigwe. The other side of the quarter contains Kimberly Birrell, Ye-Xin Ma, Xiyu Wang and sixth seed Caty McNally.
Alexandrova is the clear favourite in this section, but McNally’s variation and willingness to move forward could create an awkward quarterfinal.
Second quarter
Fourth seed Zeynep Sonmez opens against wild card Cadence Brace.
Her possible quarterfinal opponent is seventh seed Peyton Stearns, who begins against Mary Stoiana. Solana Sierra is another dangerous player in this section.
A Sonmez–Stearns quarterfinal would be one of the most competitive projected matches in the draw.
Third quarter
Eighth seed Yuliia Starodubtseva faces Sloane Stephens in the opening round.
Viktorija Golubic is the leading seed in the section, but she begins against Katie Volynets. Golubic’s quarter also includes Darja Vidmanova and Marina Bassols Ribera.
This section appears vulnerable to an upset because none of the seeded players has a dominant serve.
Bottom quarter
Fifth seed Camila Osorio starts against Storm Hunter.
Linda Fruhvirtova, Tatjana Maria and Talia Gibson are also in the section. Second seed McCartney Kessler begins against Renata Zarazua at the bottom of the draw.
A Kessler–Osorio quarterfinal would contrast Kessler’s direct hard-court game with Osorio’s movement and rally tolerance.
Main Memphis Classic favorites
1. Ekaterina Alexandrova
Alexandrova has the highest proven level in the field.
The top seed is ranked No. 19 and lists hard court as her preferred surface. She reached the Abu Dhabi final earlier in 2026 and has previously won five WTA singles titles.
Her first serve and flat groundstrokes can take time away from opponents. In a WTA 250 field without many elite returners, those weapons provide a meaningful advantage.
However, Alexandrova entered Memphis with an 11-17 record and no singles title in 2026. Her level has fluctuated considerably, and she cannot rely entirely on ranking.
Her draw is still favourable. Liutova is an inexperienced qualifier, while McNally is the only seeded player between Alexandrova and a projected semifinal.
Why she can win: Strongest serve, highest ranking and an accessible section.
Main risk: An 11-17 season record shows significant inconsistency.
Verdict: The logical favourite, but only with Medium-Low confidence.
2. Zeynep Sonmez
Sonmez may be the best value alternative.
She entered the tournament ranked No. 52 with a 25-16 record in 2026. She also reached a career-high ranking of No. 48 and has developed a more aggressive style to complement her movement.
Her opening match against Brace should allow her to establish rhythm. The principal obstacle is a possible quarterfinal against Stearns.
Sonmez is less likely than Alexandrova to dominate with her serve, but she may offer greater week-to-week stability.
Why she can win: Strong season record, movement and improving aggression.
Main risk: She may struggle to finish points against powerful hard-court opponents.
Verdict: The preferred alternative if her outright price is meaningfully longer.
3. McCartney Kessler
Kessler is the No. 2 seed and has previous title-winning experience on hard courts.
She won Cleveland in 2024 and Hobart in 2025. Her aggressive style and familiarity with American conditions make her a natural contender in Memphis.
Her 2026 record stands at 17-16 with no title. That is respectable but does not justify treating her as a dominant favourite.
Kessler’s draw includes Zarazua in the first round and a possible quarterfinal against Osorio. Golubic is the projected semifinal seed.
Why she can win: Hard-court titles, aggressive positioning and a favourable half.
Main risk: Her 2026 results have lacked consistent deep tournament runs.
Verdict: A serious finalist candidate from the bottom half.
4. Peyton Stearns
Stearns is seeded seventh but may be stronger than that position suggests.
She won the Austin title in 2026 and entered Memphis with an 18-16 record. Her profile also identifies hard court as her preferred surface.
Stearns can generate heavy topspin and defend with physical intensity. Her ability to move between defence and attack makes her dangerous in a draw where many players prefer one clear style.
Her likely quarterfinal against Sonmez would be close, while Alexandrova could await in the semifinals.
Why she can win: A 2026 title, physical game and home-country conditions.
Main risk: Her section contains Sonmez and the top seed.
Verdict: My preferred outsider.
5. Viktorija Golubic
Golubic enters as the No. 3 seed with a 23-16 season record.
She won the Oeiras WTA 125 title during 2026 and describes hard court as her preferred surface. Her slice, one-handed backhand and changes of pace can make opponents uncomfortable.
Her opening match is not easy. Volynets entered Memphis with a 30-19 record and is comfortable on hard courts.
Golubic’s lack of free service points may also become a problem against aggressive returners.
Why she can win: Variety, experience and a solid 2026 record.
Main risk: A difficult first round and limited serving power.
Verdict: A semifinal candidate rather than the main outright selection.
Other players to watch
Camila Osorio
Osorio entered with a 23-15 record and won the Manila WTA 125 title during 2026. Her movement and competitiveness make her difficult to eliminate, although most of her WTA titles have come on clay in Bogotá.
Caty McNally
McNally’s serve, volleying and doubles experience can disrupt baseline players. She previously reached the Washington singles semifinal and has been rebuilding after elbow surgery.
Sloane Stephens
Stephens has the name recognition and hard-court experience to produce an upset. However, her current level must be assessed separately from her past achievements.
Her opening match against Starodubtseva is one of the most interesting first-round contests.
Katie Volynets
Volynets’ 30-19 season record makes her a dangerous unseeded opponent. Her first-round meeting with Golubic could immediately remove the No. 3 seed from the draw.
Tactical factors that could decide the tournament
Second-serve pressure
Alexandrova and Kessler can attack weak second serves from inside the baseline. Players who become defensive immediately after serving will struggle to control matches.
Heat and recovery
With no opening-round byes, the champion must win five matches. Avoiding unnecessarily long early rounds may become decisive later in the week.
Return consistency
The field contains few dominant servers outside Alexandrova. Return depth and break-point conversion are therefore likely to decide many matches.
Variety against power
Players such as Golubic, McNally and Maria can use slices, net approaches and changes of height to disrupt more direct baseline opponents.
Betting value
Alexandrova should be the tournament favourite, but her 11-17 record means a very short outright price would offer limited value.
Sonmez may provide the best balance between price and current form. Her 25-16 record is stronger than those of Alexandrova and Kessler, although her route through Stearns is difficult.
Stearns is the most appealing outsider because she has already won a WTA title in 2026 and possesses enough physicality to compete across five matches.

My Memphis Classic prediction is Ekaterina Alexandrova to win the 2026 title.
Her current record is a concern, but she remains the strongest first-strike player in the field. Her section is also more manageable than the Sonmez–Stearns quarter or the more unpredictable bottom half.
Alexandrova should create more free points than her opponents and place immediate pressure on second serves. The selection depends on her controlling errors rather than trying to finish every rally too quickly.
Verdict
The Memphis Classic prediction for 2026 is Ekaterina Alexandrova to win with Medium-Low confidence.
Sonmez is the main value alternative because of her 25-16 season record. Stearns is the preferred outsider after winning Austin earlier in the year.
